FROM HISTORIC BEGINNINGS
SODA BLASTING was first used during the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in 1982. The interior of The Statue was coated with 6 coats of paint and a coat of coal tar. The passages of The Statue are very narrow, which made it impossible to ventilate and prevented the use of chemical strippers. Furthermore, the destructive nature of traditional abrasive blasting could not be utilized because the interior skin of The Statue is made of copper and is only the thickness of a silver dollar.
